Lost partition data

Date: Dec 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 309

I was frustrated having to give a password when I wanted access to my Data
partition, sda4. I tried various help suggestions, tried to modify 'fstab'
without success and then got in knots with various 'mkdir' 'mount' and 'rmdir'
commands. The final result is the partition appears as a new partition but I
have lost all my data. The partition still exists but is there a way I can
recover the data?

I take it the partition was formatted?
If it was I had a similar problem ages ago, used photorec from another distro
installed on a spare hard drive to recover data.
Did see how to resolve this more efficiently in a recent copy of Linux Format,
will have a look later - gotta fly.
