Internet Connection Problem with 8.04

Date: Dec 27    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 375

I installed 8.04 yesterday and it's certainly
an improvement on it's predecessors. Gutsy was
wonderful, but 'Hairy Hardon' is even better!

The one snag is the 'net connection: I added the
connection info to the network manager, and hit
'Apply.' The system said it was 'restarting the
network.' I then opened Firefox and got a blank
screen. When I re-opened the network manager, all
the connection info was gone. This happened six
times.

I'm guessing there's a file somewhere that's set
to 'read only' and it should be 'read/write.' to
save the connection data? Has anyone else had this
happen, and how did you fix it? H/H looks like a
wonderful version - but it's a Porsche with square
wheels if I can't get online??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to add that part: It's a Dell
laptop with a Netgear 802.11b USB stick,
connecting via NDISWrapper. NDIS is installed
and running - I just can't get Kubuntu to
remember the settings??

What version of KDE did you installed. The stable 3.5.9 or the edgier 4.0.3

I updated to 8.04 from the Repos, so it was 3.5.9.

I think it is starting to be a bug issue. Regardless of using Gnome or KDE. It
looks like a lot of people are haven problems with WIFI not working after the
upgrade. Please see
