Are the Edgy Repos down ?

Date: Dec 24    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 226

I installed Kubuntu 6.10 [Edgy] on an old
computer today, just to bring it into the
Ubuntu family, expecting it would update
to Feisty and beyond as soon as it found
the internet. But once the 'net was live,
there was no reaction. All the repos are
live, but no updates are reported at all??

Has anyone heard of the Edgy repos being closed
or discontinued...or is this just a glitch?

Umm they should not be as of yet. There was no word that the back ports where
closed on that vesion. The sever may be busy for every one going from 6.06 LTS
to the new.

No but you may have to use it a while before an update is automatic . I
would just get the next Version and install it. 8.4 works fine on my old
computer and ubuntu now send 7.10 free.

Edgy's support ended in April of this year. It was not a long term release, so
it expired after two years. I advise you to download the latest version 8.04 and
install it. This is far simpler than to do upgrades through all of the
successive releases. You cannot skip releases. Ubuntu or Kubuntu 8.04 is a long
term support release and the desktop version is good for three years and five
years for the server version.

You can get Ubuntu here: http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download
