DVD ripping

I'm after a little advice, please. I'm trying to rip a DVD with little
success and was hoping the collected wisdom of the group will help.

The DVD plays just fine using VLC but when I try to rip it with AcidRip,
it fails after encoding about 2 seconds worth of video. DVD::Rip fares
a little better, getting about half way before grinding to a halt.

Are there any other options I could try?

The only one that I have used is Handbrake and it works fine for me.
