change wireless card from 802.11b&g to just g

I have had some serious problems today wirelessly. I think I have it
working now - all but my laptop. I have a netgear wg511v2 that was
working great until something went haywire with my modem. After I got my
setup working it took a bit to get my other laptops working. I installed
ndiswrapper and chose the XP driver. It appears to be working. I setup
my ESSID, password type - wpa - and password. This unit I have a static
ip and I hit enter. But It just doesn't connect up with the modem. The
only thing I have changed is I moved from Operating Mode of 11b&g to
just 11g enhanced.

Is there anyway to access the b/g to g only setup on the card via Linux?

Are you using NetworlManager to manage the connection?

I had a similar issue with an Atheros chipset when using ndiswrapper. Switching
to wicd solved it.

I found the problem. Netgear talks about using WPA on the support site
for my card but, apparently it doesnt support it. I got out my original
box out and it saying nothing about WPA - though the paperwork about
security does.

As soon as I went back to WEP - its all fine.

Any chance there's a flashable firmware upgrade to a later version
with WPA for your Netgear?

There is software version 3.1 now available but that is just for the
setup of the card on the computer.

I have emailed Netgear about this as their documentation is conflicting.

You do realize how badly broken the encryption in WEP is right? If your card
does not support WPA I would suggest getting one that does.
