Using a webcam

I'm working on a project where I'm writing code to get pictures from a
webcam and uploading them to a server for security. I'm experimenting
with this Logitech QuickCam but after looking through synaptic for
software, nothing really jumped out at me.

Any recommendations?

Last time I went to the logitech site they did not supply software for
Linux. Wondered if a google type search woul;d turn anything up for you
model of webcam.

I kinda got it working with Camorama but it does have problems.
