I have installed vbox on Daper. Was able to get alt. Edgy xUbuntu iso
as a VM, everything worked O.K. Get ' FATAL: No bootable medium found!
System halted. ' when trying to get 'Delta Cad' loaded with 98se! Host
CD/DVD Drive = */dev/cdrom and I can't change it.

Ok, I went to the website, found nothing there referencing PUEL
so I grabbed what they did have which was simply Virtualbox for
AMD64 and installed via the terminal following the instructions on
the page. All seemed to go well, it automatically uninstalled
OSE and appeared to have installed properly.

Problem - I can't find it anywhere. All that is left under
applications is the VboxGtk which does not give me access to the
VirtualBox Its some sort of config program but no where does it
allow for the installation of an OS or anything else. There is a
box for OS type but its grayed out.
I checked under /etc and it all seems to have been installed- so
where is it?

I downloaded and installed Virtualbox from here:
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

It is OK.

After installing it you can start it with the
VirtualBox command (capital V and B).

This is exactly the page I was on earlier, but instead of downloading I
used the synaptic way at the bottom of the page.
This time I downloaded the deb package and was promptly told it
was the same version I already have installed. It gave me the option
to reinstall, which I allowed it to do since obviously something isn't
working properly.

Now please forgive my ignorance but where did you put the VB ? I
just tried the terminal and was told command not found. This is
sooooooooo frustrating.

OK, now Im totally pissed.
This version of virtual box gives me no more capability than the OSE did
Vista is still there, still unable to connect. I was told to
install some wireless networking device. I do not do wireless. We
are totally wired here and I see no reason to have to install more
hardware just to run this stupid program. I also get this error
message about my guest OS only being set to 24bit color, but when
I went into vista it was appropriately set to 32bit color.
What's worse is that I no longer have the ability to switch back and
forth between vista and VB I have to actually shut Vista
down. It does pull up Firefox, but if I cant access it from
Vista it does me no good at all. I don't think that VirtualBox
is going to be an option for me with all these unsurmountable
problems that you all say Im not supposed to be having anyways.

If you haven't installed the guest additions in the Vista guest, then
VirtualBox will be capturing the keyboard and mouse. To get control
back into your Ubuntu host, you need to press the 'host key' which, by
default, is the right hand ctrl key (*specifically* the right hand one -
the left hand one won't do it) - this can be changed from the Sun
VirtualBox control window by going to File > Preferences > Input but
not, so far as I can tell, from within the guest OS.

I know that VB can be a bit of a pig at first, but it is worth
persevering with - after much frustration and self-inflicted hair loss,
I now have several virtual machines running (including XP, Ubuntu and
numerous other *nixes as guests on both Ubuntu and Vista hosts) and I
wouldn't be without it.

Hope that helps, a bit, at least,

With the new VB I CAN'T make that switch. It worked fine in OSE
but it doesn't work at all in PUEL at least not for me on my
machine. Nothing is working here the way you ALL seem to think it
should. I have the latest of equipment, complete with all upgrades,
etc. There is no reason this should not be working for me, but it
Isn't and its just not worth the aggravation. I do thank you for
your input.

Clearly not, my apologies.

Hit it with the largest hammer you can find - won't do the computer any
good, but *you'll* feel a whole lot better :-)

But you're right, these infernal contraptions aren't worth half of the
aggravation they cause. I'm just sorry I don't have the knowledge to
help you sort this problem out.

No thanks needed :-) I've learned so much from and got so much out of
the Ubuntu community, I just try to give something back, if I can.

I LIKE the hammer idea !!! LOL
But quite seriously I uninstalled the POS. It doesn't work for me
and I'll be dipped if
I install a wireless network card which it seemed to think I needed.
Anyway its a done deal, lets get on with more pressing issues.
