Problem starting up Ubuntu

Date: Jan 03    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 260

Right now i have Ubuntu set up as a dual boot with windows 2000.
Ubuntu is on a completely separate hard drive from windows. When I
start up the computer GRUB gives me several choices for starting up.
I can start up the Ubuntu kernel 2.6.20-16-generic or the Ubuntu
kernel 2.6.20-15-generic or I can start up Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional. Half of the time when I start up Ubuntu it only gets
past the Ubuntu logo with the orange bar underneath and then the
screen goes black. The rest of the time when it passes that point it
will either freeze right before the login screen or it will actually work.
I had the same problem with Edubuntu, but I had Edubuntu running by
itself on the same computer on the same hard drive with no windows.
If anyone has any insight into my problem it would be greatly
appreciated,

You can open Grub in an editor of your choice and delete the options as you
wish or enter them in the same way as you see them.

My problem was not with the choices, but with the screen going blank
and Ubuntu freezing up and not loading. But thanks for the info.

OK then I suggest you reload Ubuntu to cure the blanking.
