Parallel Port Problem

Date: Dec 11    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 449

I have upgraded from 8.04 to 9.04 with fresh installation as I
always do. When I tried 8.10 I had the same problem as I'm now having.
The lp port is missing, usb printing works with no problem. Now, on my
other system running 9.04 and only a parallel port printer I have no
problems but on the system I use everyday the lp port is missing.

The HP Laserjet 6P was there when I first installed and setup my
printers with lp port but it would not print than when I deleted that
printer instance the lp port was no longer there.

In dmesg I get (relevant parts included)

[ 19.099699] usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 1 alt 0 proto

I have searched the ubuntuforums, cups lists, as well as google with no
help.
I even searched through the messages on this list.
I really hate to revert back to 8.04 again because of this stupid
parallel port problem.
