live CD startup question

I had no problem installing Ubuntu 9.04 on my new computer.

My question is, shouldn't I be able to boot the Live CD (purchased from
canonical)?

The CD does not show up in my boot loader.....

It won't show up in the grub boot loader, if that's what you are referring
to. If your BIOS is set up to boot from the CD first (if and when there is
one in the drive) then it should boot from the live CD.
