Install Issues

I burned a new cd on my xp machine.
I put it in the cd drive but the machine just by-passes the drive. So I changed
the boot sequence to sata-cdrom first and then hd but it still makes no
difference. I havent found a way to get the cdrom into the action. (And yes it
does work)

When I try to install from the usb drive I still have the "cant unmount cdrom"
though its not mounted or used.

This morning I have tried a whole slew of things to get this to work.

Changed thumb drives - didnt work.
Unplugged the hd's to get the cd to spin up - boot error
changed all sata cables on the computer
changed the order of cables to devices
removed the ide drive
installed a ide cdrom
tried another cdrom with the os
had my neighbor burn another cd rom
...or tried to. I have three 9.04 isos from three different download sites and
all three have errors when writing. Errors on each of my three machines and on
my neighbors two machines. Im downloading another.

I tell you what, I have never had so much difficulty in so many ways just trying
to get a computer running.

I know it's maddening but you will find the answer eventually. Think of how
much you are learning! I've never had such perplexing problems in my 2 years
with Ubuntu.

If I were not experiencing this myself -- I would be hard pressed to believe it.
The cdrom, the cd's, the hard drive and thumb drive... all having trouble... oh
my.
