just a quick message to all aspire users running ubuntu or trying to
run ubuntu when trying to load in from cd or dvd if you come up with
the message "initramfs" simply restart the pc and take out any memory
cards you might have in the card readers as these cards are usually
in the FAT format and ubuntu doesn't like it.
It worked for me, a simple fix.

last week I recieved a Acer AspireOne netbook. I checked it using
the Win XP that was pre-installed and everything worked fine. Atleast
everything I checked.

Then I installed Ubuntu 8.10. I don't like input pads so after the
initial test in Windows I switched to a mouse. Didn't try the scratch
pad until the next day after installing Ubuntu. It didnot work. The pad
seems to be enabled in the Windows control setup area.

Have you or anyone else had trouble with the pad not working after
Ubuntu is installed. It didnot work in Windows or Ubuntu.

No problems on my MSI Wind. It came with WinXP and I added Ubuntu 8.04. Both
use the touchpad just fine.

not had any problems with my mouse pad in either windows or Ubuntu.
The only thing I can think of doing is going to the acer website and
seeing if there is a driver for the mousepad and trying to reinstal
it, apart from that I'm sorry but I can't be of anymore use to you.

I sent that little problem child back to TigerDirect on Thursday, Feb. 5.
Earlier today I recieved email that it, or a replacement, has been sent via
UPS. Should have it tomorrow, Wednesday, or Thursday.

I suppose some of you have been installing Ubuntu onto an Acer
AspireOne,AAO, that initially had only Win XP and you added Ubuntu with no
problem. Can I get a response onto which AAO you are talking of, the one
that initially arrived with Win XP installed or the one with Linux on it.

You probably don't want to hear this as it is not for the Aspire, but the eeePC.
I have installed dozens of distros including Ubuntu 8.10 and the touchpad always
works. Everything works including wireless and camera. Hibernation does not work
with KDE, but it works with XFCE for some strange reason. You might want to try
the eeeBuntu Netbook Remix. It is made to work with a variety of Netbooks.

The standard version is the full version. The NBR version is a simplified GNOME
interface with big icons that occupy the whole desktop.
