UbuntuStudio & MobiDTV Pro ?

Date: Feb 11    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 384

I have just installed UbuntuStudio 12.04 onto a laptop, so that I can learn
a bit and try out different programs to make sure they do what I want,
before I ditch Windows XP from my main machine.

So far so good.

I have a MobiDTV Pro dongle that came with Arcsoft TotalMedia 3.5 software

www.ebay.co.uk/.../TV-Tuner-USB-Digital-DVB-T-Freeview-Windows-7-Dongle-S\
tick-/380442045450?pt=UK_Computing_Video_Capture_TV_Tuner_Cards&hash=item58941ce\
c0a

which runs quite nicely under Windows, but I am unable to find any software
for it to work under UbuntuStudio.

Does anyone kknow of any software please or a TV dongle that works under
UbuntuStudio ?

My limited experience with TV tuners in Linux has told me not to look at
the make and model of the tuner so much as the chipset. Find out what the
chipset is and Google that and UbuntuStudio. Note: I currently do not have
a tuner, but have owned several in the past. There are a few chipsets that
are used by many manufacturers and the same help would apply for the
various makes as long as they share the same chip.

Open
Terminal and enter this command: lsusb

You should get around 10 lines of output, and hopefully you can recognize one of
them as the tuner. For example, my webcam shows up as:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0ac8:303b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0303 Webcam

The most useful information is the ID, 0ac8:303b in the case of my webcam.
Google the ID along with the word USB, and you should find a web site which will
tell you more than you want to know about the device.

A different approach would be to Google: mobidtv DVB mythtv

Mythtv is the gold standard for TV reception under Linux. I found this comment:
"It's ok....after much struggling I worked out that it automatically hotplugs
when you put the firmware in /lib/firmware."
