gsm disconnected you are now offline

A very frustrated wet behind the ears newbie here.

I'm running a new install of Meerkat on an ASUS netbook. When I plug my Sierra
Aircard 312u into the usb port it is recognised when I use 'network connections'
to setup a new connection to Telstra (Australia). Click on connect, the network
icon turns & goes green, the lights on the modem show blue, then networking
shuts down & I get the message "gsm disconnected you are now offline" Any retrys
& the same msg instantly pops up. This also happens on another laptop running
Koala. Works fine on Windoz though unfortunatly.

I noticed has to reboot with the modem in the USB sometimes.Maybe that
will work for you, or another tool others can suggest.
