Programming Ubuntu applications.

What language is commonly used to develop programs for Ubuntu?
I would like to be able to create gui apps that would run on Linux.

Most use Python and GNU, but you can use linux Debian, unix, C++, PHP, Java, and
so on. All can be installed using Synaptic. Lots of programs are used to run
Linux. Linux being the based kernel and all above to help run it. Mainly GNU.
Linux is the golden bullet GNU needed and the rest followed.
