Duplicated partial path in Package Information

Date: Dec 04    Category: Unix / Linux / Ubuntu    Views: 388

I have just joined the list hoping to get an answer to a problem
with my Dell Ubuntu laptop. My Dell came loaded with Ubuntu 8.10 - the
Intrepid Ibex. It has worked very well except for the Update Manager.
When I tell it to download the package information, I get this
message:

Failed to fetch
ppa.launchpad.net/.../bin\
ary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

I when hunting and found the needed package at:
ppa.launchpad.net/.../Packag\
es.gz

I can tell that it is duplicating "dists/intrepid" in the path when it
tries to get the binary-i386/Packages.gz. What I have not been able to
figure out is where is this path stored so I can fix it?

I had a dell netbook mini10v with a crippled version of ubuntu
which didnt seem to have software center / add new programs
or update
and we couldnt get it to have more than one log on identitiy.

That's what I think was happeneing, after searching the internet

The solution was to back up the data,
download ubuntu9.10 netbook remix and install that from a usb stick.

Your machine does sound like it was crippled. I am a qualified
Unix admin on Solaris and HP-UX. It accepted four logins just as it
should on day one. My box is working correctly.

However I have not been able to figure out where the paths are located
for the Package Information.
